Equations from Harrison Essay Example for Free

Equations from Harrison EssayNature has a elbow room of bringing everything to its normal position, plants give off atomic number 8 during photosynthesis, humans and animals engross up this oxygen for survival and in turn give off carbon dioxide (CO2), which is used up by plants. This human relationship shows how nature has created a commensurateness between plants and animals. In natural water dodge all living organism depend on the oxygen or give the sackd oxygen in water for sustainability. Dissolved oxygen (DO) I water helps maintain a healthy river, lake and ocean and thence stick uping different kinds of aquatic organism. A symbiotic system exits whereby all aquatic organisms depend on themselves for survival. Most of the dissolved oxygen (DO) in water comes from photosynthesis and atmosphere, about 8 10mg/l is needed to maintain carbon% saturation in water. However, the level of dissolved oxygen in water varies, the amount or concentration of oxygen (O2) rises from morning through o evening, this is as a return of serious activity by plants in water. At this time photosynthesis is taking place and so oxygen (O2) is given off, whereas at night, the level of oxygen drops because photosynthesis has stopped.Nonetheless, plants and animals continue to consume oxygen. The level of oxygen drops, this drop may bring down the level of to about 4mg/l and this is the minimum amount that is compulsory to sustain the living organisms in water. Man and nature contribute significantly to the level of dissolved oxygen (DO) in water both in a positive and negative way. Nature The levels of dissolved oxygen in water can greatly be affected by weather conditions, these are temperature, pressure, erosion, sediment and ice cover. These factors affect the solubility of oxygen (O2) in water. An increase in temperature reduces the amount of dissolved oxygen. As the temperature increases the saturation concentration decreases (Gray N. F 1999). Table (1) shows the relationship between dissolved oxygen in water and temperature at 1 atmosphere. Temperature (oC) Dissolved Oxygen (mg/l) 0Table (1) source Gray N. F 1999 pg 67 From table (1) above it can be observed that as water gets warmer, there is a reduction in dissolved oxygen (DO), this is because the oxygen blood corpuscle becomes energised and diffuses to the water surface thereby leaving fewer dissolved oxygen in water. Dissolved minerals in water could be as a result erosion, sedimentation and weathering. Dissolved salt in water reduces the concentration of dissolved oxygen in water water being a universal resultant role dissolves salt.Oxygen is used up to form other compounds as shown below SiO2(s) + 2H2O Si(OH)4 (1) Fe2O3(s) + 3H2O Fe 2O3. 3H2O(s) (2) CaO(s) +H2O Ca(OH)(aq) (3) CaCO3(s) + CO2 + H2O Ca2+(aq) + 2HCO3- (4) (Equations from Harrison R. M et al 1996) When these solid minerals dissolve in water, oxygen is used up to another compound. Man The quest by man for a better li ving has in a way impinged on the quality of water. To improve plain yield, fertilizer is added to plant root for growth, however, plants coming back up few amounts and the rest is washed into river and or lake.Nitrogen and morning star are the major constituents of fertilizer, if in excess, both elements in a compound form causes eutrophication thereby reducing the amount of dissolved oxygen in water. In developed countries treated sewage is disposed off into river, this waste contains microorganisms, detergents, and other waste product. If untreated or regulated these causes severe reduction of dissolved oxygen in a water body. Sewage contribute large amount of nutrients into the river, plants and microorganisms use up these nutrients, rivers or lake that contains essential mineral nutrient may support heavy growth of algae (Manaham S.E 1993). Bio chemical Oxygen need (BOD) In water dissolved oxygen (DO) place an important role in maintaining a counterweight as enumerated abo ve, for instance, when oil or for that matter any substance that is a stranger is introduced into a water body, some biodegradation will take place to break down the hydrocarbon molecules, usually oxygen is the fuel that is used up or consumed to carry out this disruption of the hydrocarbon molecules. Biodegradation can be chemical reaction or biological that is caused by living organisms like bacteria, fungi, sulphate reducing bacteria etc.The amount of oxygen required to completely breakdown the hydrocarbon molecules by chemical reaction is called the Chemical Oxygen crave (COD), this is a measure of the amount of oxygen required to breakdown the molecules. Also the amount of oxygen required to breakdown completely the hydrocarbon molecule by biological activity is called the Biochemical Oxygen demand (BOD). However, in these report Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) will be focused on rather than Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD).Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) can simply be delineate as the amount of oxygen used up by microorganism (e.g. aerobic bacteria) in water. The rate at which oxygen is used up is possibly more(prenominal) important than the determination of dissolved oxygen (Pierce J. J et al 1997). How much clean a water is can well be persistent by the amount of BOD, this is because the amount of oxygen present is determined and also the amount available for both plants and organisms to use up and maintain a balance ecosystem. Increase of biochemical oxygen demand in a water body can be caused by * If there is high level of native pollutant High level of nutrients.Increase in BOD causes species or microroganisms that are sensitive to lower dissolved oxygen to be replaced by organisms that are more tolerant to low dissolved oxygen, these results in a shift in the ecosystem. Organic and nitrogenous compounds are responsible for high levels of BOD, basically biochemical oxygen demand is divide into carbonaceous and nitrogenous oxygen demand. Aerobic o rganisms utilize organic and nitrogenous nutrients and these processes require high amount of dissolved oxygen. This is represented thus Organic C6H2O6 + 6O2(aq) + bacteria 6CO2 (aq) + H2O (5) Nitrogenous.COHNS + O2 + bacteria CO2 + NH3 + energy (6) From equations 5 and 6, it is obvious that oxygen is consumed to the detriment of the water body. Factors that causes high Biochemical Oxygen Demand Organic matters are the source of high biochemical oxygen demand, the sources of these contaminant are, industrial effluents, leaves, dead plants, animal manure, sewage treatment works, urban runoff and agricultural runoff. However, in Nigeria the most significant contribution of organic compounds in water are the petroleum and petrochemical industries, oil exploration activities are being carried out.

Global Citizenship Essay Example for Free

spherical Citizenship EssayAs far as we know, many people throughout the world face different issues such(prenominal) as global warmth, pollution of environment, gap between wealth and poverty, discrimination, suffering of HIV/AIDS and so on. Therefore, more and more people are attracted to pith in one community and solve global problems together. Nowadays, many people batch be considered as citizens of our planet, or as Global Citizens. The main inclination of Global Citizens is to create such conditions and solutions to problems in enounce to make the world around them a better place. All of them tend to have both(prenominal) precise qualities. I know enough people, who possess them and inspire me more to be a Global Citizen. Initially, I consider myself as a part of Global participation and as a Global Citizen because I try to help people that need it. For me, being a Global Citizen means not all enjoying our rights, but also bearing responsibilities and taking care f or surrounding people and environment beyond ones nation or territory, in order to create a virtuous society in the world.Open-mindedness and willingness to commit good deals are the main qualities, which Global Citizen should have. Every person has different types of personality, some of them can make good teachers, some good creators, other good workers, and so on. Although they have different qualities and abilities, they are part of one community and take some responsibilities for surrounding people for making the world wee bit better. Therefore, they can be considered as Global Citizens. They are joined by qualities such as kindness, love to every single person on the world, motivation to hard work, and responsibility for humankind. In addition, Global Citizens should have perseverance because the mission of being creditworthy for human beings faces many obstacles. Accordingly, Global Citizens should wish to improve lives of others and possess kindness, responsibility, and pers istence. Global Citizens are not isolated from the world and think not only more or less themselves. People start to be such Citizens when they start to commit good deal toward strangers, who need help.No matter if they act alone or in teams, they are still Global Citizens. I have met many people that act as Global citizens. For instance, I know people, who deal with children that have oncological diseases, or people, who take some activities to decrease the level of HIV/AIDS sufferers, or people that engaged in benevolence, or other that engaged in special communities, which deal with different issues in society. I, firstly, admire with my grandmother, who have small business, but always take time and money to engage in charity for orphanage. In spite of facts that she is retired and care about her children and grandchildren, she still work hard, has patience, and has desire to help other people, to make their lives better. This example proves that anyone can take even little acti on toward better humanitys life and unintentionally contract a Global Citizen. I believe, I will follow my grandmothers example because from my childhood I am kind, responsible and strive to help people. I always wished, nobody should be upset. Therefore, when I saw sad person, I approached to him/her, tried to understand situation and attempted to help.Later on, I become part of different communities such as School Parliament, International Organization Dance4Life, Students Community Enactus, and some others. Most of my time I spent in School Parliament, so I will tell more about its activities. This little take organization took responsibilities for al roughly all events in school and some activities outside it. We regularly took part in charity for orphanage, support disabled people of our school, amused people that had oncologic diseases, and conducted some events. We helped one family to collect some amount of money to childs operation by selling some ribbons and conducting f ew times charity events. It was one of the biggest deals that we did in school time ourselves. After pupils operation, his parents thanked us and appreciated our activities. Thus, as studying in gamey school we started to participate in solving some problems outside of our lives, to help others, to improve surrounding peoples lives and performed as Global Citizens. Thereby, everybody can become a Global Citizen despite age, gender, and region. To be a Global Citizen means to take actions and fulfil some duties in order to improve someones life. Global Citizenship should not be focused on scale of an action because helping people starts from little steps, from helping even one unknown person. Therefore, most of people, who are helping others that need a support, can be considered as Global Citizens. The majority of these human beings understand that they somehow may effect on people, who live on the other side of the Earth. Thus, they think broadly and care about surrounding people a nd nature.

A View from the Bridge Essay Example for Free

A View from the Bridge EssayExplore how Miller creates childs playtic tension at the break off of act one. Comment on this dead reckonings importance to the play overall. A View from the Bridge by Arthur Miller explores the complicated lives and relationships between a family living in the slums of New York. This particular play is set in a slum called Red Hook which is strongly patriarchal, and where there is a largish Sicilian, volatile community where many homes harbour outlawed immigrants and the fear of their disco actually is high. Within this society, tensions are high because of fear that they would be found hiding illegal immigrants in their home, which is what a lot of the anxiety in the play is based on. Alfieri tells us, the audience, about the importance of justice and how justice is often administrated outside rather than privileged the law. This generates fear as we anticipate that people within the society bequeath not necessarily abide by the law.Miller c reates tension at the very beginning of the play by demonstrating the fact that the area is prone to violent attacks, we hear of the Vinny Bolzano incident on page 23 in which Vinny snitched to immigration that they were hiding illegal family members in their home. Beatrice describes how three flights his head was bouncin like a coconut after his brothers and father threw him out the house and on to the street. Before the play plain starts, we can tell that Miller will aim to sustain a tense atmosphere throughout the play from the office Alfieri says and watched it run its bloody course. The end of this act centres on Eddie Carbone and his family (Beatrice and Catherine) who are joined by Rodolpho and Marco (illegal immigrants), sitting together after a meal. The story so far has introduced tensions which are later highly-developed and twisted into a devastating conclusion. We have already met Eddie Carbone the tragic protagonist of the play. He is constantly self-interested, wan ting to promote and protect his own innocence. We are do aware at the beginning of the play of Eddies protection over Catherine, his niece. He says to her youre walkin wavy, and I dont like the looks theyre giving you in the candy store. This is a clear conclusion of the fact that maybe he feels a little more for her than family love, an issue which becomes inflamed when Rodolpho is introduced to the story. The relationship between Catherine and Eddie shows conflict, which effectively leads to and causes dramatic tension. Eddies possessive and protective genius is channeled through Catherine, and initially an audience may perceive this to be an effect of the male-dominated society in which they live in.This explains why he is so cynical and neuronic as well as angry when Rodolpho is asked to dance by Catherine. Tensions have appears to have formed with Catherine. Eddie is becoming increasingly jealous and aggravated by this which is shown in the first place this scene has even started from the elan he says to Beatrice, the guy aint right. When Catherine asks Rodolpho to dance, he is immediately reluctant in deference to Eddie who, as it says in the stage directions, freezes, and Rodolpho claims I-Im tired.Tensions have already risen within the past few pages between Marco and Rodolpho and Eddie after arguing about whether they paint oranges and lemons, which leads the audience to believe that Marco and Rodolphos joint defiance against Eddies behaviour will become more of an issue later in the play. Rodolphos initial hesitation to dance with Catherine shows his determination not to annoy Eddie any further, however, Catherine is insistent. Eddie reacts by questioning Rodolphos masculinity, which adds to tensions because in the area where the play is set, masculinity and government agency over others is very significant.Eddies speech Its wonderful. He sings, he cooks, he could make dresses shows that he is clearly try to gibe Rodolpho. He obviously feel s as though his dominance in his house is being threatened by him, therefore creating tension. Miller uses powerful symbolism in his writing to portray Eddies character and express his emotions to the audience. We are made aware of Eddies disapproval and anger of the situation, and Miller writes stage directions to express this. For example, Eddie seems to retreat to his rocker when he feels uncomfortable and wants to remove himself from the situation. This is his place, and as a male, he is very protective over his space and it belongs to him and only him. His newspaper is also symbolic. He uses it as his way of hiding away, for example, when the stage directions say Eddie goes to his rocker and picks up his newspaper after being told about Marco and Rodolpho having been to Africa. He later lowers his paper, indicating that he has chosen to engage in the situation. This is another example of his desire to keep himself to himself, which effectively communicates unease to the audience .The use of the pause is also significant in the build-up of dramatic tension. For example, when Eddie has just insulted Rodolpho, there is a button up Eddie Well, thats all Im asking. Eddie reads his paper. There is a pause, leading to an awkward atmosphere. Now Catherine gets up and puts a record on the phonograph This is an uncomfortable moment of tension. Catherine breaks the silence by putting on Paper Doll, but it creates more tension by increasing the friction between Catherine, Rodolpho and Eddie.Catherine also uses it as a way of provoking Eddie by asking Rodolpho to dance. This scene is a complete contrast to earlier on in the play where Miller showed Catherine to be obedient and deferent towards Eddie. This sudden change in Catherines behaviour is partly due to the conversation earlier on in the play with Beatrice about how Catherine needs to become more independent from Eddie. Miller also uses dramatic devices to create tension such as violence when Rodolpho boxes wi th Eddie at the end of act one. When the stage directions say, rubbing his fists together, it shows that Eddie is trying to release his anger and frustration on Rodolpho for interfering with Catherine and his relationship with her. This creates tension as they boxing at each other. Soon after, when Marco challenges Eddie and says Can you lift this tone down? and he cannot, Marco then does it and holds the chair high above his head, whilst glaring at Eddie. This threatening pose creates very visual tension for the audience, as Marco has upstaged Eddie and robbed him of his male dominance in his own home. When the end of act one arrives and the play has an interval, the audience are left on the edge of the their seats and feel anxious to kip down the outcome of the events they have just witnessed. The tension build-up up until this point leaves the audience at a great ease, because the play so far has left questions unrequited and problems unsolved, meaning that the audience are spen ding the interval relating to the characters discomfort in the play. This scene in particular is significant to the climax of the play because it sets up Eddies percentage to fail and lose his self-control.The events that happen at the end of this scene could be described as the beginning of the end, as it is this moment that effectively leads into and foreshadows the escalation of tension and drama right to the end of the play. Eddies frustration at the situation of Catherine and Rodolphos increasingly passionate relationship lead him into his feud with Marco, which in the end is what kills him. Eddie sets himself up for his own downfall, and this is the scene where it all escalates from.

The main role of strategic HRM is the improvement of an HRM system that increases an organizations awareness, worth, invention, and productivity to customers. Strategic human resource planning (SHRP) involves four distinct stages Situational analysis/environmental scanning. Estimating solicit for human res ources. Analyzing the supply of human resources. Developing action plans to near any gap between human resource deal and supply. The first stage of HR planning is the point at which strategic planning and HRM interact. HR planners anticipate sources of threats and identify and should drive the organizations strategic planning and opportunities with the help of Environmental scanning. The strategic ideas or plan implement to environmental circumstances, and HR planning is the mechanisms that an organization can use to accomplish this adaptation process. The second stage, forecasting demand, requires estimating not only how many but also what kinds of employees will be needed by the organization. The demand for employees should be closely tied to the strategic direction of the organization. Forecasting yields advance estimates of the organizations staffing requirements. This is a difficult task, especially for organizations in rapidly changing environments. quadruplet forecasting tec hniques include expert estimates, trend projections, statistical modeling, and unit-demand forecasting. Estimate by no of expert, a group of experienced or expert provides the organization with demand estimates based on subjective assessments of available economic, intuition, prior experience, and labor force indicators. Trend projection involves forecasting which is based on a previous birth between the employment and a factor related to employment (e.g. sales levels). Statistical modeling techniques (e.g. regression analysis or Markov analysis) are more quantitative forecasting and sophisticated techniques. Unit-demand forecasting requires the unit managers (e.g. department head, project team leader) to analyze the present and future job-by-job, people-by-people needs. The third phase involves line of businessing the number and types of flow rate employees in terms of the training and skills infallible for the future and also the supply of capable workers in the outside labor m arket. The skills inventory is a major puppet employ to assess the internal supply of employees. A skills inventory is a list of names, skills and characteristics of the people currently working for the organization. The list of skills coded into the skills inventory should be trig to the needs for the organization, but might include such factors as level and field of education, knowledge of a foreign language, professional qualification or certification, or licenses held. The organize inventory provides a way to acquire these data and makes them available as needed in an efficient manner. Also important is the need to retain the inventory so that information is kept current. With regard to the external labor market, the entire country (or world) may be the relevant labor market for extremely skilled jobs. For unskilled jobs the relevant labor market is usually the local community. After the HR planning system has analyzed twain the supply of and the demand for future workers, the two forecasts are compared to determine what, if any, actions are necessary. If a discrepancy exists between the two estimates, the organization needs to choose an appropriate course of action designed to eliminate the gap. The organization has a number of options available when the demand for workers is greater than the supply of workers. The organization might elect to use overtime work with current employees, increase training and promotions of current employees, or recruit new employees. In tight labor markets, the availability of labor is limited (i.e. demand exceeds supply), campaign up the price of those employees who are hired, and limiting the extent to which the organization can be selective in its hiring procedures. In a loose labor market, qualified employees are abundant. When the supply of workers exceeds demand, alternative solutions include attrition, early retirements, demotions, layoffs, and terminations.STRATEGIC HRM AT NESTLENestl aims to increase the busin ess, list of customers, profits and sales but, at the same time, to improve the Standard of living everywhere it is active and the quality of life for everyone. For that research about 20,000 human genome had been decoded.Genetic science suggests that we have to develop 5,000-10,000 new drugs1.be get along these genes argon linked with five and ten protein molecule. So we need to focus in development of low molecular weight drugs. The compounds must be containing specific pharmacokinetic and toxicologic properties, which merchant ship show the properties of drugs. In these days scientists have many techniques to speed up the drug discovery process, like combinatorial chemistry, microwave-assi sted organic deduction, and high- throughput purification2. Actually, it is very knotty to select moiety with less molecular weight because less than 500 atomic mass unit is 10200, of which only 1060 may possess drug-like propertiesThe proportion is virtuoso part in 1057, or roughly the ratio of the mass of one proton to the mass of the sun The issue is therefore the selection of new molecules from this huge cosmos that have the potential to be biologicly active3.It is important to do research work on medicinal chemistry to synthesis the biologically active cyclic aromatic heterocycles which should be easily available commercially too. Here is the list of available bicyclic heterocycles is mainly limited to well-known nitrogen containing compounds, such as quinazolines (1), indoles Chapter- 1 superior general Introduction 2(2) and benzimidazoles (3).Esatlished examples of intimate substructures include benzodiazepines (4), coumarins (5), quinoxalines (6), benzofurans (7) and b enzothiophenes (8)5. Chapter- 1 General Introduction 3O (9) Benzopyran N N NH N (10) Purine The benzopyran and purine privileged scaffold1.2 Nomenclature of the f utilise ring systemAs the following chapters deal with the synthesis of bicyclic fused ring systems, its nomenclature is herewith suddenly reviewed. The nomenclature follows the following rules(1) The individual components are named without any application of fused ring system.(2) The parent component is represented in the fusion name by citing it last in the name. The parent component is the one with highest priority according to the fol lowing criteria(a) heterocyclic compounds contains elements in ring.(b) a component containing the larger ring.(c) there are so many atoms of elements in the ring.(d) a component containing the greater variety of heteroatoms.(3) The attached component is then added as a prefix to the parent component. In the name of the prefix, the terminal e is changed to o.(4) The bonds of the parent component are indicated by a, b, cstarting with the bond normally occupying the 1,2 positions. The atoms of the attached component are add uped as usual, following the order of numbers in the original heterocycle.(5) The numbering of the final condensed heterocycle is carried out independently, starting at an atom adjacent to a bridged-head atom, whereby heteroatoms suffer the smallest possible number. Mechanism and Optimization of Melphalan

Mechanism and Optimization of melphalanMelphalanIntroductionCancer in general is referred to body cells that grows rapidly and over the limit of normal cells (Hayflick limit). Theres over 200 different types of cancer, where some cancer cells can interruption to other parts of the body leading to further complications. Its one of the biggest leading cause of death worldwide. Therefore interest in finding manipulation and prevention for this disease has been growing. One of the nearly successful chemotherapy medicates is Melphalan. Its been over 50 years in use and theres an increase in research to improve this drug. Its indicated for different type of cancer for the analgesic treatment of multiple myeloma (MM) and for the alleviation of unresectable epithelial tumor of the ovary. It has overly been used just or in combination with other chemotherapy drugs for relief treatment of locally repeated or unresectable in-transit metastatic melanoma of the extremities. Its also used in addition to other drugs or surgery in breast cancer.Mechanism of actionMelphalan belong to a mark of chemotherapy drugs called nitrogen mustardalkylating agents. Its the oldest class of anticancer drugs still frequently used. Its a bifunctional alkylating agent which sum it has dickens sites where the reactivity occurs. It displaces the chloride ion by aminoalkane nitrogen to form a cyclical amine ion (aziridinium ring) by intramolecular nucleophilic attack. Afterwards the DNA nucleophile undergoes a nucleophilic attack and opens the azidrine ring, which leads to the alkylation of DNA. The lone pair of electrons on the nitrogen in the drug will thusly be regenerated when the azidine ring cleaves. The same reactions happen on the second reactive site of the drug, by displacing the second chloride ion. (picture) This will lead to cross-linked DNA molecules through covalent bonds. The covalent bonds can be made in two different ways either on the same DNA strand which will bowdle rize the shape permanently prevents other enzymes or molecules from defending to it, or on adjacent strand therefore preventing replication/transcription process. (picture) The reaction happens in the N7-site of guanine, which is the most preferred nuclei acid. However the reaction can also take place at the N3-site of adenine. The alkylation of the nucleotide leads to miscoding of DNA as for example Thymine will bind to guanine instead cytosine. Due to the p-orbital of the benzene ring in melphalan that draws the lone pair electrons from nitrogen, this leads to reduction of reactivity to form the azirdine, hence only infrangible nucleophiles such as guanine will react with it. This has the benefit of reducing the stance reactions with water, tissue and blood, leading to the drug can be given orally. The side chain of Melphalan is L-phenylalanine, meaning it has a component that act as the amino acid phenylalanine. (picture) Consequently the drug is most likely to be appreciate as an amino acid, and it will be taken into the cell by transporter protein. This increases the stability of the drug further.Optimization of MelphalanDespite Melphalan universe used as an anticancer drug for over 50 years, its associated with many complications including poor solubility in water, variable bioavailability and rapid hydrolysis at physiologic pH (11-14) which also increase the bioavailability problem. Another major problem is its rapid clearance from the blood circulation due to its short half-life (90 min). A study conducted in USA to tackle these difficulties by adding a poly ethylene glycol ( control stick) to the Mel, in order to enhance the formulation of parental and oral administration. leg is a synthetic substance polymer which is water soluble and non-ionic. It is an amphipilic polymer meaning it has an exceptional capacity to be soluble in both aqueous and organic solvents. This property makes it ideal for chemical meld of substance that has a biologic al centre. Another advantage of using PEG is it has exceptionally low level of antigenicity and immunogenicity. The process of conjugation is called PEGylation. Its a trip the light fantastic process where in the first step the activation and derivatization of PEG occurs with appropriate functional groupings. In step two the conjugation of the activated PEG with Mel occurs. The NH2 group in melphalan undergoes a nucleophilic reaction with mPEG-succinimidyl propionate (mPEG-SPA) under the presence of DMAP catalyst. This reaction produces an amide bond, which is reasonably stable. The mPEG-SPA gets hydrolysed to mPEG and N-hydroxysuccinimide. Fig x.The study conjugated two molecular weight (MW) PEG 2000 and 5000 Da. Variable test were conducted to measure the difference between the two different MW PEG conjugates and the parent drug Melphalan. The aqueous solubility of the conjugated Melphalan was metrical by dissolution test, the results are shown in table 1. The table shows ther e is an increase in aqueous solubility of MpPEG-2000 by nearly 80 times reading as 7.20.12 g/ml and increased by approximately 123 times for MpPEG-5000 reading as 11.070.8 g/ml, compared to the measured solubility of the parental Melphalan of 0.09 g/ml. This results can be explained due to the PEG chain being attached to the drug. On the other hand the haemolytic activity of melphalan versus its conjugates was also determined by assessing the haemoglobin content. The melphalan haemolytic activity was measured to 100% above the concentration 3.5 g/ml (table 2). With regards to MpPEG-5000 only 48.81.5% haemolysis sight at concentration of 32 g/ml (table 3). In shield of MpPEG-2000 the highest percentage of haemolysis of 81.30.5% was recorded at concentration of 32 g/ml (table 4). The lower haemolytic activity of the conjugates compared to melphalan might be due to the dominated property of polymeric carrier PEG. These results is an indication that the chain length of PEG plays an i mportant role on the haemolytic activity. The property of delaying haemolysis is better in MpPEG-5000 compared to MpPEG-2000 even at higher concentrations. It also has an effect on the aqueous solubility due to the longer the chain the more hydrophilic backbone of PEG will be present. The percentage cumulative hydrolysis of the conjugates was observed in case of MpPEG-2000 to be 10.110.68 after 6 hours, whereas for MpPEG-5000 was only 5.211.2% after the same time (table 5). The low cumulative hydrolysis detected in MpPEG-5000 may be understood due to the ester linkage being protected by the PEG molecule due to the steric hindrance. Furthermore the amide bond is more protected in MpPEG-5000 compared to MpPEG-2000 due to the shielding effect of the larger chain of PEG. Therefore the MpPEG-5000 can be an ideal candidate to provide a slow release drug formulation. Thus, increase the half-life of the drug and decrease the clearance.Clinical trialsConclusionThis drug adds a small group, a n alkyl group to the DNA to alter its structure and hence modifies the function. Its an alkylating agent which means it adds an alkyl group to DNA.The alkyl group may be transferred as an alkylcarbocation, afree radical, acarbanionor acarbene(or their equivalents).Nitrogen mustards (NMs) form cyclic aminium ions (aziridinium rings) by intramolecular displacement of the chloride by the amine nitrogen. This aziridinium group then alkylates DNA once it is attacked by the N-7 nucleophilic center on the guanine base. A second attack after the displacement of the second atomic number 17 forms the second alkylation step that results in the formation of interstrand cross-links (ICLs) as it was shown in the early 1960s. At that time it was proposed that the ICLs were formed between N-7 atom of guanine residue in a 5-d(GC) sequence.1516 These kinds of lesions are effective at forcing the cell to undergo apoptosis via p53, a protein which scans the genome for defects. Note that the alkylating d amage itself is not cytotoxic and does not right away cause cell death. For the analgesic treatment of multiple myeloma and for the palliation of non-resectable epithelial carcinoma of the ovary. Has also been used alone or as part of various chemotherapeutic regimens as an addition to surgery in the treatment of breast cancer, alone or in combination regimens for palliative treatment of locally recurrent or unresectable in-transit metastatic melanoma of the extremities, as well as for the treatment of amyloidosis with prednisone.http//www.bloodjournal.org.ezproxy.kingston.ac.uk/content/106/2/698http//onlinelibrary.wiley.com.ezproxy.kingston.ac.uk/doi/10.1002/cncr.27820/fullhttp//www.bloodjournal.org.ezproxy.kingston.ac.uk/content/117/24/6445http//www.drugbank.ca/drugs/DB01042http//cancerres.aacrjournals.org/content/44/7/2773.full.pdf+htmlhttp//pubs.acs.org.ezproxy.kingston.ac.uk/doi/full/10.1021/jo300351ghttp//www.bloodjournal.org.ezproxy.kingston.ac.uk/content/100/1/224http//www. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4024156/http//www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4286742/http//ac.els-cdn.com/S0898656813000314/1-s2.0-S0898656813000314-main.pdf?_tid=c3b012a4-c411-11e4-944b-00000aab0f27acdnat=1425654312_d9351a386aa77b225426f1c34e100e88http//ac.els-cdn.com/S0144861714004196/1-s2.0-S0144861714004196-main.pdf?_tid=00c4f2b8-c412-11e4-aee6-00000aab0f6cacdnat=1425654412_90fa9336c00ccddd1706b13914966246http//ac.els-cdn.com/S0009279702000145/1-s2.0-S0009279702000145-main.pdf?_tid=458a0f50-c412-11e4-b306-00000aacb360acdnat=1425654528_8adc41f2576ed853db84f0b37d63aba7http//ac.els-cdn.com/S0014827X03001642/1-s2.0-S0014827X03001642-main.pdf?_tid=8710dca6-c412-11e4-ba2b-00000aab0f02acdnat=1425654638_fb397da0e9304b218456d2a2da0cc6bfhttp//ac.els-cdn.com/S0144861714012533/1-s2.0-S0144861714012533-main.pdf?_tid=ffa7bf86-c412-11e4-9b6f-00000aacb361acdnat=1425654840_9033413b545510662226d20eec11b255http//www.drugs.com/mmx/melphalan.htmlhttp//cancerres.aacrjournals.org/content/23/8_P art_1/1315.full.pdfhttp//www.hindawi.com/journals/jna/2010/543531/https//books.google.co.uk/books?id=Sd6ot9ul-bUCpg=PA1208lpg=PA1208dq=nitrogen+mustard+aziridine+ringsource=blots=TMPCHHeGPrsig=tArK9BCztSsPXxLXMj2ojRGFG2shl=ensa=Xei=FggDVaHxFMatU_6zgfABved=0CD8Q6AEwBgv=onepageqf=falseBifunctional alkylating agents (e.g., nitrogen mustards (melphalan, chlorambucil, cyclophosphamide, and ifosfamide) and chloroethylnitrosoureas (BCNU and CCNU)) possess two reactive sites. These agents cross-link DNA with proteins or, alternatively, cross-link two DNA bases within the same DNA strand (intrastrand cross-links) or on opposite DNA strands (ICLs). ICLs, which shut down replication forks, are the most serious cytotoxic lesions produced by most bifunctional drugs. Accordingly, the extent of ICLs correlates well with the cytotoxicity of nitrogen mustard drugs

The Sword in the Stone of the Arthurian Legend Essay -- Arthurian Lege

The Sword in the Stone of the Arthurian Legend King Arthur and the knights of the round table belong to a long line of books and stories of the Arthurian legend. pigeon hawk, Lancelot, The chick of the lake, King Arthur, and Excaliber are all very import emmet in the Arthurian legend. In this essay we will talk ab start King Arthur, the knights of the round table, and Merlin in the famous story, The sword in the stone. The Sword in the stone is a book about an adopted child named wart. He is of royal crinkle and does not fill out this. One day when Wart is in the forest, he finds a magician named Merlin. Merlin comes home with Wart and agrees with Sir Ector, Warts guardian, to run Warts tutor. Merlin goes about educating Wart by Transforming him into different animals. Through each renewing Wart experiences different forms of power, each being a part of how he should rule as king. The first transformation takes Wart and Merlin into the castles moat as a fish. They then sports meet ing the largest fish in the moat, which is an alligator who is the ruler. The alligator takes what he wants because of his size. In a speech about power, he tells Wart that Might is right, and might of the body is great than might of the mind. Because of the way the alligator rules, his subjects obey him out of fear for their lives. Wart experiences this firsthand when the gator tells him to reserve. He has grown bored of Wart, and if Wart does not leave he will eat him. The king uses his size as his claim to power, therefore his subjects follow him out of fear.In Warts next transformation into a hawk, he soars into the castles mews. All the birds into the mews have a military rank. Their leader is an old falcon, who Sir Ector keeps just for show. The birds who rank below the falcon, make prisoner her in the highest regard because of her old age. She applies her power over the other birds with no concern for their lives.
